Andragogy
In the early 1970s Malcolm Knowles introduced the term ‘andragogy’, which describes differences between children and adult learners (Knowles, Swanson, & Holton, 2005). Andragogy focuses on the special needs of adult learners. Knowles identified six assumptions about adult learning needs:

You will also need to look at the individual needs of your learners to see how that impacts on your group delivery. For example if you have learners with external needs such as arranging child-care or transportation concerns, these are factors you will need to consider in your deliver strategies. Other examples include literacy or learning needs, these too need to be considered and adjustments made to ensure all your students are equally included within your program. The focus on your learners’ needs and characteristics is known as ‘learner-centred’ training. |
